Museums and the Web is an annual conference exploring the social, cultural, design, technological, economic, and organizational issues of culture, science and heritage on-line. Taking an international perspective, Museums and the Web reviews and analyzes the issues and impacts of networked cultural, natural and scientific heritage. Eric Miller from Zepheira will be attending this meeting and participating in the invitational only Wikimedia@MW2010 workshop. This workshop is designed to bring together leaders in the museum industry, Wikimedia Commons effort and Web community to examine for greater synergy between the museum sector and Wikimedia efforts. Specifically this workshop will address rules, guidelines and examples that can be clarified to order to promote active engagement between the two communities.
Eric Miller will additionally be presenting work on Recollection: Building Communities for Distributed Curation and Data Sharing. Recollection is an open system which supports the identification, location and reuse of information across distributed digital collections created in partnership with the U.S. Library of Congress and the National Digital Information Infrastructure and Preservation Program (NDIIPP). This presentation will discuss this work and the goal of accelerating connections between people, data and views as a means to build communities around access, discovery and distributed curation of digital content.
