23 February 2016 – http://zepheira.com – Zepheira has signed Boston University (BU) to its Early Adopter for Academic Libraries Linked Data service. BU is now working with Zepheira to convert its MARC catalog of over 3,000,000 records into Linked Data and publish it to the Web to increase the visibility of the library’s resources.
Like most academic libraries, less than half of BU’s users start their searches for information at the Libraries’ Web site, explained Jack Ammerman, Associate University Librarian for Digital Initiatives and Open Access. “We are committed to making the resources of Boston University Libraries discoverable in the preferred discovery environments of our users. Publishing our records as linked data is an essential first step for us. We are convinced that publishing these bibliographic data in linked data formats not only increases their discoverability, but enables their re-use in ways we can’t yet imagine. We are excited to learn how these data might be re-used.”
“The wealth of information contained in the Boston University Libraries Catalog and Collections is vast, but largely concealed from users within their preferred methods of information searching,” explained John Richardson (JR), Vice President of Library & Vendor Partnerships. “Transforming their MARC records to Linked Data and publishing them to the Web reveals more resources directly to BU Libraries’ current and potential customers.”
